The Government Spokesman, Marios Pelekanos, gave his own answer to what AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou had said earlier regarding the poverty line, noting that & nbsp; the economy, the numbers, the statistics data was never the privileged field of AKEL.
According to Mr. Pelekanos, this is true in all areas, but much more in the so-called “social indicators” which record a significant improvement in recent years and prove that even the most vulnerable of our fellow citizens are much less and in much better situation than those in 2013 when AKEL handed over the government of the place, together with thousands of unemployed people and tens of thousands of our decent fellow citizens, forced to resort to social groceries even for basic necessities.
He also notes that in 2013 the risk of poverty or social exclusion reached 28%. Today it is at 21% which is & nbsp; historically the lowest level since 2005, the year data began to be recorded. With severe material deprivation in 2013, 16% was in danger, while today this percentage has been reduced by half. & Nbsp;
not only cares about the well-being of citizens, but also knows how to achieve it. Because the well-being of the citizens is not achieved through aphorisms and slogans, but through an organized policy and the creation of a strong protection network.
He concludes that days like those of Easter 2013, when the vulnerable were stacked outside social groceries, as a result of AKEL's disastrous economic policies, to get baskets of food, we will not allow them to return.
