Cypriot entrepreneurs have strong resistance to crises, says CCCI President – His message at the official ceremony of the 11th “KEBE Business Leader Awards”

“The entrepreneurs of our country have strong resistance to crises, they have vision and new ideas and they know how to survive in adverse conditions,” said the President of the CCCI, Stavros Stavrou, in his greeting at the official ceremony of the 11th “KEBE Business Leader Awards” on Monday evening.

Greetings at the event were also delivered by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, the CEO of IMH, George Michael, and the Executive Chairman of General Insurance, Louis Pochanis.

Mr. Stavrou stated that through the awarding of the “CCCI Business Leader Awards” the Chamber rewards distinguished business leaders and honors the business of Cyprus.

“As the CCCI, we are proud because in this difficult time for the economy and business, we have Cypriot entrepreneurs who, through their actions, initiatives and work, achieve high goals and new achievements”, he said.

He added that “this success proves, among other things, that our country's entrepreneurs have strong resistance to crises, have vision and new ideas and know how to survive in adverse conditions”.

He noted that the entrepreneurs who are awarded at the event are those who have managed to overcome difficulties over time, as he said, those who had a vision and dared to realize it with ethics and dynamism, those who brought new ideas, a fact that secured them the distinction.

He also mentioned that for the CCCI it is of great importance that entrepreneurs not only appear, but also be anthropocentric, explaining that “the importance of the term business ethics is universally recognized and the importance that all international organizations attach to it is constantly growing”.

He added that business ethics are inherent in the recovery of the economy, saying that “it is proven that economies that apply high levels of business ethics are healthier and more promising.”

Mr. Stavrou stated that the CCCI also gives the same importance to business ethics through the triptych of its vision, which sets as its primary goal the constant promotion of well-intentioned entrepreneurship for a strong economy and a healthy, prosperous society.

He also said that the award sends the right messages to young entrepreneurs that entrepreneurship must be based on values, such as mutual respect, healthy competition and the implementation of best practices.

Mr. Pohanis noted in his greeting that in recent years we have witnessed stormy changes at all levels and that entrepreneurship has been tested and is still being tested and adapted to new data such as artificial intelligence.

He added that what is certain is that businesses, at this critical juncture, have managed to gain the trust of the people of the world, noting that “this is demonstrated by the Trust Barometer, the global displacement survey that is published every year as part of the work of the Economic Forum in Davos.”

He noted that business insurance “is of paramount importance in an unstable world, which is plagued by extreme weather events as a result of climate change, increased costs, supply chain disruptions, cyber-attacks and a generalized uncertainty.”

Mr. Michael, for his part, said that for 11 years this institution has been rewarding business leaders for their long-term contribution to the development of their sector of activity and Cypriot business in general.

“Today we are rewarding business leaders who dared, had visions, and with respect for good business, their customers and society, managed to excel”, he noted.

He added that today's awardees lead pioneering, innovative and successful organizations that employ thousands of employees, noting that “mainly, however, they are business leaders who have the appreciation of their staff, their customers, their associates and Cypriot business in general”.

The awards, jointly organized by CCCI and IMH, were attended, among others, by the President of the Parliament, Ministers, Members of Parliament and people active in the business sector.
