Misinformation and shift of responsibility complains through a statement by the Movement for Equality, Support, Anti-Racism, in relation to what took place last Friday at ” Pournara“.
Specifically, as stated in its announcement by KISA: “according to testimonies from persons residing in the Pournara Center, on Friday, October 28, 2022, at around 10:00 AM, two asylum seekers staying in two adjacent tents fought over the ownership of a phone charger. The security personnel of the Center did not intervene even when the confrontation developed into a clash between them. At some point, one of the people involved kicked the fire pit that was used to prepare food, causing the tent to catch fire”.
“It should be noted that at the Center food is prepared on fire pits for personal consumption and selling inside and outside the tents on a daily basis”, KISA explains.
He also notes that “reacting with anger, the other person threw burning wood into the tent where the one who caused the fire lives and it started to burn and the second scene. Until that moment there was no intervention from the staff, private security guards and police officers who are responsible for managing the Center and the security of the applicants residing in Pournara”.
