Cyprus is under siege, while last night it was recorded at mountain temperatures of -9 degrees Celsius, said Kleanthis Nikolaidis, director of the Meteorological Department at Politis 107.6 and 97.6. The temperature is clearly below the average climatic values, explained Mr. Nikolaidis, who noted that the region is affected by a cold current that arrived from Asia Minor.
The normal temperature, added Mr. Nikolaidis during the day is 15 and 16 degrees Celsius, but 13 degrees Celsius are recorded inside.
The Director of the Meteorological Department, stated that the temperature will drop even more in the coming days, while the frost also persists. “Transient clouds will appear, while from Tuesday a new low barometric, snowfall and local rains are expected,” noted Mr. Nikolaidis. On Wednesday a new system will affect the area. Any phenomena observed from about 1300 meters and above will be in the form of snow.

Tonight the weather will be partly cloudy. The winds will blow southwesterly to northwesterly, weak to moderate 3 to 4 beauforts but gradually in the wind leaks will blow up to strong, 5 beauforts. The sea will be a little turbulent and later to the west and north it will be up to turbulent. The temperature will drop to 4 degrees inland, around 6 on the south and east coasts, around 8 on the west and north coasts and to -4 degrees in the higher mountains. Frost is expected in the mountainous and leeward semi-mountainous areas.
On Tuesday the weather will be at times mostly cloudy and local rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected. Snowfall is expected in the higher mountains.
On Wednesday the weather will initially be partly cloudy with isolated light rain or light snowfall in the mountains, but gradually it is expected to become mostly clear.
On Thursday the weather will be mostly clear.
The temperature will rise on Tuesday to fluctuate close to the climatic averages. A noticeable drop is expected on Wednesday. Rise is expected again on Thursday.
The height of the snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issuance of the bulletin, was 8 cm.
