An agreement reached on Tuesday evening secured the continued employment of Larnaca’s port and marina workers following their dismissal by Kition Ocean Holdings.

The roughly 80 affected employees will transition to new roles at the port and marina under the management of the Larnaca and Famagusta Development Company.

This solution emerged after a lengthy meeting between the Ministers of Labor and Transport and trade unions.

The agreement stipulates that the tasks previously performed by the workers will be documented to ensure they are assigned similar duties under the new management. Furthermore, the employment terms of these workers will be incorporated into the upcoming tender for the management and development of the port and marina.

Labor Minister Yiannis Panagiotou emphasized the government’s commitment to enforcing labor laws and protecting worker rights throughout the process.

Kition Ocean Holdings, in a separate statement, defended its actions regarding the terminations, insisting they complied with legal obligations concerning employee transfers during business takeovers. They further highlighted that they provided the dismissed employees with access to independent legal counsel.

This agreement offers a degree of job security for the affected workers while the tender process for selecting a new management team for Larnaca’ s port and marina progress.
