April comes without a plan for domestic tourism support for the hotel industry, since the current plan is completed at the end of the month. Therefore, the three days that started on Friday and the weekend that ends today were, for the time being at least, the last that the residents of Cyprus could spend the night in hotels subsidized by the Ministry of Tourism. The possibility, however, of repeating the plan is more than visible, since the Deputy Minister of Tourism, speaking recently in Parliament and responding to calls from MPs in this direction, said that it is something that is already being studied.

The issue was mentioned on Wednesday and the secretary general of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou, in the context of contacts that his party had with tourism agents to consider proposals for mitigating the problems faced by industry as a result of the Ukrainian crisis. As Mr. Stefanou said, AKEL already has proposals regarding the strengthening and upgrading of domestic tourism, noting that “domestic tourism provided good and effective solutions during the pandemic” and expressed the assessment that “and now we can from strengthening, expanding and creating new domestic tourism plans and programs to help the tourism industry survive so that we can see how developments will take shape. “
