Letter to PtD from security holders – What they claim

Must read

What do the security holders want from Christodoulidis

Ειτοε απoχοσ ;ξιγρφων αξινον />

The security holders' association sent a letter to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, requesting, among other things, the taxation of the banks, while they request full and total compensation of all beneficiaries, taking into account that the purchase value of money today is not the same as that of 2013.

This is the letter:

In the last few days we, the victims of the 2013 haircut, have become the subject of confrontation between parties and the government. The reason for your decision to reject the law passed by the Parliament for the direct deposit of bank taxes to the ETA.

We are sorry because we believe that there should have been unanimity and consensus regarding the rehabilitation of the victims of the 2013 haircut. It is an indisputable fact that the Cypriot economy was saved by this move. At the time, no one bothered whether the haircut legislation was constitutional or not. The statements of the then Attorney General, in 2013 after the haircut, in a session of the Institutions Committee of the Parliament – in the presence of members of our Association – regarding the relevant decree, were as follows: “We should have all examined the decree more carefully : Parliament, Attorney General, Supervisory Authorities. Find a way to help people.” This is what we have been waiting for for 12 years.

Your Excellency Mr. President,

Our Association representing the defrauded holders of Laiki and Bank of Cyprus securities and fighting for their rehabilitation, declares that:

• Does not accept any delay in our compensation course as you have personally determined it: We express our satisfaction because the application submission platform has been opened and fifty million euros have been deposited in the Fund. We expect by the end of the year the start of disbursement of the 210 million deposited in the Fund.

• The endowment of the ETA from taxation to the banks is based on sound logic as it is the banks that have taken the money. This specific taxation ends up in the government's coffers, so it is at its discretion to deposit the money into the ETA. We expect you, Mr. President, to have second thoughts about the referral of this particular legislation.

• Our wish is for everyone to cooperate with the government for full and total compensation of all beneficiaries, taking into account that the purchase value of money today is not the same as it was in 2013.

This in brief and we expect you to arrange a meeting with representatives of our Association as soon as possible to discuss the matter further.
