The pandemic affects for the second consecutive year the established celebration of the flood of Limassol, but not the 60th anniversary of the Wine Festival, which will be festive, said the Mayor of Limassol, Nikos Nikolaidis.
According to Mr. Nikolaidis, at last night's session, the municipal council decided that, due to the pandemic, events for the three days of the flood will not be organized this year either.
However, he noted, the Municipality of Limassol will soon begin preparations to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Wine Festival, which was also canceled last year due to restrictive measures to deal with Covid-19.
“Essentially, the Wine Festival will be the first major popular holiday after the pandemic and because it is its 60th anniversary, it will take on festive proportions,” said the Mayor of Limassol, adding that next Tuesday the dates of the celebration are expected to be decided. .
This year, he added, we will celebrate the Wine Festival “with brilliance, renewed, with new elements and of course a new period begins, so that the next decade will be a period of substantial upgrade of this great popular holiday”.
For the record, the Wine Festival, which began in 1961, except in 2020, did not take place in 1964, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977, due to political unrest.
