The Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II breathed his last after a long battle with cancer on the morning of November 7th at the age of 81. The Archbishop suffered in recent years with serious health issues. Specifically, he was diagnosed with cancer for the first time in 2017, while throughout these years he traveled abroad several times for surgeries and treatments.  

Despite health problems, the Archbishop maintained a clear mind until the end and remained in his duties. The Archbishop's cancer, despite successful medical operations, was aggressive and metastasized to various vital organs, the last of which was the pancreas.

Archbishop Chrysostomos finally fell asleep on Monday morning, with the news of his death. of causing grief throughout Cyprus.

Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus was born in 1941 in Tala, Paphos. After finishing elementary school in his village, he became a trainee monk at the Holy Monastery of Agios Neophytos and then attended Paphos High School. He graduated from high school in 1963 and on November 3 of the same year was ordained a deacon. In 1968, he began his studies at the Theological School of the University of Athens, from where he graduated in 1972. On October 19 of the same year, he was unanimously elected abbot of the Monastery of Agios Neophytos, he was ordained elder and installed as abbot on November 12 by Archbishop Makarios III. On February 25, 1978, he was elected Metropolitan of Paphos by acclamation.

In the Archbishopric, he was enthroned on November 12, 2006 after the archiepiscopal throne was declared a widow, due to the irreversible state of health of Archbishop Chrysostomos I.
