LoRaWAN® is an essential step to make the city of Paphos

Today, the Municipality of Paphos took another essential step for the implementation of the strategic goal for the transformation of the city into “smart” and “digital”. Mayor Phaedon Phaedon signed with the Contractor Logicom Solutions Ltd the contract of a total amount of 476,000 euros for the implementation, operation and maintenance of the low power wireless network type LoRaWAN® that will cover the entire area of the Municipality of Paphos. The project will have a duration of 6 months for its implementation and 8 years for its operation and maintenance.

The network will be the common infrastructure on which will be based planned and future applications IoT (Internet of Things) and “Smart City” that will be developed as it will allow the interconnection and communication of sensors-devices with their respective applications, such as smart parking. The LoRaWAN® network is an ideal choice in this case as it provides extremely low power (ultra low power) and long range (long range) thus ensuring the longest possible battery life of the devices, the interconnection of thousands of devices with a small number of routers and low cost long-term operation.

Speaking during the signing, the Mayor of Paphos, Faidonas Faidonos, stressed that the goal of the local authority is the correct and fast service of the citizen and the smooth operation of the Municipality through e-government. The Municipality, he added, has achieved with a systematic work the transition to digitalization and is taking substantial steps in the implementation of projects that are “running” such as the “Smart” Parking Management System (Smart Parking), Installation and Maintenance of “Smart” Lighting and “Smart” Pylons (Smart Street Lights and Smart Poles), Development and Maintenance of Geographic Information System (GIS), “Smart” Water Management and Water Metering System (Smart Water Management).

On his part, the General Manager of Logicom Solutions Ltd Chrysostomos Kritiotis, congratulated the Municipality for its efforts to integrate Paphos into the new digital age and e-government and assured of the full cooperation of Logicom so that the work of LoRaWAN to be completed within the stipulated schedules and with complete success.
