In recommendation to remove discrimination due to gender against female non-commissioned officers of the EF in the field of work, Maria Stylianou-Lottidis, Commissioner for Administration and Protection of Human Rights as an Equality and Anti-Discrimination Agency, proceeded.
In her electronic message to the General Director of the Ministry of Defense which she communicated, she states that the investigation carried out, following complaints submitted by female non-commissioned officers, had led to the conclusion that the complainants were victims of prohibited discrimination based on gender, both access to work, as well as professional advancement.
He adds that the consultations prescribed by the Law were held in the Office of on October 12 and 31, 2022 and they were attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the lawyer of the complainants, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Public Administration and Personnel.
After of the consultations, the Commissioner made the Recommendation such as “the Ministry of Defense immediately proceed to take measures to implement its proposal to grant an additional increase within the salary scale found in all female non-commissioned officers, coming from the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th ranks, including those of said ranks appointed to the rank of Sergeant and subsequently for any reason left the service. The Ministry of Defense cannot withdraw from the above proposal, except in the event of a possible new agreement, which will be to the benefit of the affected female non-commissioned officers”, it states.
“In order for the above to happen implementation from 1/1/2023, the Ministry of Defense in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, to provide for the inclusion of a relevant fund in the Supplementary Budget which will be submitted within the next few days before the House of Representatives for a vote”, concludes the Commissioner.
