The goal is to improve the competitiveness of the Cypriot economy, Minister of Finance Makis Keraynos said on Thursday, emphasizing at the same time the extroversion and export character of Cypriot businesses.

The Minister made statements in the context of his visit to the DOSEAR company, in Larnaca. As he said, his visit to the company “underlines the practical will of the Government and the Ministry of Finance to support innovative businesses”, especially those that employ Cypriot scientists and collaborate with international companies.

“It is a commendable effort and the Government wants to strengthen these efforts and we are already working on a plan that will integrate and enrich our economic development model, so that infrastructures are created in Cyprus”, productive units and businesses that take advantage of the new modern technology and create jobs, he added.

In response to a question as to whether efforts to attract new investments are favored at this time, the Minister of Finance stated “that it is not only appropriate but also required and is a top priority”.< /p>

He continued, saying that “we are a country, a member state of the European Union, and this is also the general strategy of the EU to improve the competitiveness of the European economy”.

In response to a journalist's question about whether the Ministry of Finance is working on new incentives to attract new investors, Makis Keravnos said that in the context of the new strategic planning “specific incentives will be incorporated”, but at the same time he said that the proposals of the Ministry of Finance have been passed by the Cabinet “which give incentives, working capital to Cypriot businesses, to new businesses and even to small businesses that decide to cooperate or merge with other businesses so that we can approach economies of scale”.

Representatives of of the company stated that the visit is part of the framework of strengthening and encouraging innovative businesses founded by Cypriot scientists, utilizing new technology and employing Cypriot scientists.
