“The ball is in Britain's side” over the crisis over fishing licenses between France and the United Kingdom, French President Emmanuel Macron said in Rome tonight.
Macron reiterated that measures will be taken from Tuesday, if London does not accept the “de-escalation” proposed by Paris.
“If the British do not make any move, the measures (announced last week) will take effect on November 2,” he warned, adding that he “hopes there will be a positive response tomorrow.”
“I do not want escalation. We need to get serious. “I do not want to have to retaliate, because that would not help our fishermen,” said Macron. “We have given the Prime Minister's Johnson's team a document,” which explains how the two sides will work to resolve the issue. “Now the ball is in Britain's court,” he concluded.
