New evidence on the action of the main suspect in the disappearance of little Madeleine – What a former friend testified of the German accused in his trial for sex crimes
New evidence has come to light about the actions of the main suspect in the disappearance of little Madeleine McCann in 2007 in Portugal.
A former friend of the German accused in his trial for sex crimes claimed that he had informed the parents of the little girl Madeleine for him and his action, a year after the little girl disappeared.
Helge Busching, a former friend of the defendant Christian Brueckner, said he had given a statement to the Scotland Yard team, which was looking for the girl in 2017.
As he testified in court he first named Christian Brueckner to the private investigator of the McCann family, Dave Edgar, in 2008, a year after the child disappeared from the family's holiday apartment in Portugal. Edgar, however, told Sky News that he did not recall any messages or conversations with Busching at the time.
The latter insisted that when he called Scotland Yard, they sent detectives to interview him for three days in Greece where he was living at the time.
'The girl didn't cry when I picked her up' >
During these interviews, he told them that his then-boyfriend had “confessed” to him that he was the abductor of little Madeleine, claiming that “the girl didn't cry when I took her”.

Seven years later, he told the court: “I did not expect the consequences. I lost my job, my apartment and I have no friends. My life changed negatively”.
Busching was testifying against Christian Brueckner in his trial for sexual acts unrelated to Madeleine's case. The suspect is accused of three rapes and two sexual assaults allegedly committed when he lived in Portugal.
Christian B., as German media call him, denies all charges and any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance.

Two of the rape charges stemmed from statements given to police by Busching, who described his relationship with his ex-boyfriend: “We were not good friends then and we certainly will never be good friends in the future.”
Videos of torture and rape
At trial she said Christian B. videotaped himself raping an elderly woman and a teenage girl two years before the toddler disappeared.
Busching said he saw the footage on videotapes he and an associate stole from a friend's home while he was in prison in 2006. He described the video as showing a masked man torturing and raping his victims before taking out the mask.
But the defendant's legal team disputed their existence because they were never recovered by investigators.
They accused Busching of contradicting himself in his testimony. with the version given earlier in the trial by his associate Manfred Seyferth.
The hearing was adjourned after the defense accused prosecutors of creating a global bias against Christian Brueckner. His lawyers argued that he could not have a fair trial on the rape and sexual assault charges because prosecutors kept accusing him of abducting Madeleine.
Defense lawyer Atilla Ayak asked the judges to remove one of the prosecutors in the trial.
He said German prosecutors gave the impression that Christian B had killed Madeleine although he has not been charged in connection with her disappearance and he denies any involvement. .
The 47-year-old defendant is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for raping an elderly American woman in Praia da Luz, the same resort where Madeleine disappeared.
Busching will return for to provide more information in June. The trial for the sexual crimes is expected to continue in the summer.
