A Catholic priest, who was pulled from the rubble of a building in central Madrid on Wednesday after being seriously injured in a gas explosion, was taken to hospital today, according to the archdiocese. its announcement.

Madrid first aid services said all available indications were that the blast at Caye Toledo, a road leading outside the city center, was caused by a gas leak.

The upper five floors of the building were completely destroyed, their walls collapsed as well as the facade of the building, while the two lower floors remained almost intact, but were damaged by smoke. Priests also lived in the building.

Two men walking down the street and another repairing a boiler inside the building were also killed in the blast, according to authorities who initially said an 85-year-old woman was among the dead.

For his part, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister announced that one of the victims was a 47-year-old Bulgarian.

However, there were no injuries in the adjacent buildings, a nursing home and an educational institution.
