Makis Keravnos: “Responsibility and obligation to maintain a strong economy”

Μακης Κεραυνo&sigmaf ;: «Ευθyνη και υποχρΕωση να διατη ρorσουμε μια ισχυρor οικονομiα» /></p> <p>The forefront of economic and social policies, in a difficult economic environment, such as today's, is the shielding of the economy through very careful manipulations, but also the safeguarding of the sustainable development perspective centered on people, emphasized the Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos, in his speech at the Economic Forum, organized by AKEL at the Conference Center in Nicosia.</p> <p>“We have a responsibility and an obligation to maintain a strong economy and to meet our European obligations, but at the same time to deal with serious social problems”, underline.</p> <p>As reported by KYPE, Mr. Keravnos said that “in order to be able to exercise effective social policy, it is necessary to simultaneously implement policies that ensure stable and sustainable growth, within the framework of fiscal discipline and financial stability”, noting that ” this is also the permanent policy of the Government”.</p> <p>Regarding the tax reform, the Minister of Finance emphasized that the goal is “the adoption of a transparent and simplified system, with the least possible bureaucracy.</p> <p>“It must also be encouraging to business and at the same time be socially fair , to be within the framework of European standards and to aim at reducing tax evasion and avoidance”, he added.</p> <p>He also stated that the main tool and instrument for the implementation of the Government's development program is the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and added that “with the initiatives it contains, we aim at significant structural reforms and the expansion of the productive base of the economy, utilizing research , innovation, technology and above all, the remarkable human resources of our country, which I consider to be our most important advantage”.</p> <p>Regarding green taxation, Mr. Keravnos said it is expected to contribute significantly to achieving Cyprus' green goals within the European Union. “It must also encourage business and at the same time be socially fair, be within the framework of European standards and aim to reduce tax evasion and tax avoidance, he underlined.</p> <p>Regarding the draft Budget for 2024, which has recently been submitted to the Parliament, Mr. Keravnos said that it is a developmental Budget with a 12% increase in development expenditure, human-centered with a 15% increase in social benefits and at the same time, it is also in surplus, for a long time specific reasons.</p> <p><noindex></p> <div class=Source: 24h.com.cy
