Also, extremely cold air masses for the period we are going through began to settle in our area, culminating in the following days and lasting until the middle of next week. At the same time, at times mostly cloudy to cloudy weather is expected to give further phenomena, with the main feature being the snowfall, which will extend to lower altitudes in the coming days.
This cold invasion that began to affect our area and peaks in the next few days is, according to Kitaswheather, particularly unusual for the period we are going through, not only because of the intensity but also because of the duration it will have. These unusual conditions are due to the strong anticyclone in northern Europe, which cut off a wedge of planetary scale in the region of Ukraine and trapped a very cold lake over the region of southeastern Europe and the eastern Mediterranean. Note that this cold invasion will not only be the most intense of this hydrological year, but probably also of recent years.
