Mavroyiannis: To investigate all the dark aspects of surveillance

All the dark aspects of the surveillance should be investigated seamlessly and fully, states in a press release the electoral staff of the independent candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Andreas Mavroyiannis.

It is noted that “once again the name of the Republic of Cyprus is involved in the vortex of international scandals”. It is added that “tomorrow's descent of the Commission of Inquiry to investigate the use of the Pegasus (PEGA) software, demonstrates in the most intense way the state of the rule of law in our country, with the lack of transparency, but also the possible infringement of fundamental rights of citizens”.

"Our country is allegedly involved in the surveillance scandal, since software development and export companies were active here, which were detected recording conversations of citizens, journalists and political figures”, reports the press release, adding that "companies and individuals who sold the spyware and government or other services, as well as entities included in the buyer list and their illegal practices, must be brought to light.

Finally, the electoral staff of Mr. Mavroyiannis calls on “the government and all those involved, to cooperate fully with PEGA, so that in conditions of accountability, transparency and respect for citizens, all the dark aspects of surveillance can be investigated seamlessly and fully”.
