In politics, compromises must be made and emotions have no place, was the reaction of the mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, in relation to the reform of the local self-government. Yesterday's vote in the Plenary Session of the Parliament brought the union of the municipality of Deryneia with the municipality of Paralimni, but Deryneia, projecting the uniqueness of the area as semi-occupied and critical, demanded autonomy.
Speaking on the Control Panel show of POLITI 10 , Mr. Karagiannis said that the Municipality will continue to offer high quality services and service to the citizens, adding that time will show whether the merger with Paralimni was a wise decision.
Throughout the consultation period, “we felt intense competition between the Municipalities and the parties and especially in the province of Famagusta where it was more intense” he said, adding that “no one wanted Deryneia because due to the fact that its coastal part is occupied does not have the same income as the rest of the regions “. “Unfortunately, it turned out that the party interest prevailed over the common interest”.
