The Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry Natasa Pileidou had a meeting with the Egyptian Minister of Electricity Mohamed Sacker in Cairo today.
The two Ministers discussed the final draft of the memorandum of understanding between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece for the electrical interconnection of the three countries. The decision on the memorandum was made at the Summit of the Heads of State of the three countries, President Nikos Anastasiadis, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, held on October 21 in Lefkosia.
The memorandum is expected to be signed by the three competent Ministers of Greece, Egypt and Cyprus in the coming months.
Ms. Pileidou stressed that they discussed with the Egyptian Minister of Electricity several issues related to the electricity interconnection between Cyprus and Egypt, which is a goal of Cyprus, as she mentioned. He also said that they discussed the cooperation on issues related to the technology for renewable energy sources and the production of green hydrogen, as well as the deepening of their cooperation, so that there is the possibility of developing the electrical interconnection, but also the possibility of cooperation in new technology.
