While the first official consultation of the two main opposition parties is expected to take place – information speaks of the end of next week or the beginning of next – it seems that within the Democratic Party the group of executives is strengthening, who see positively the support of Nikos Christodoulidis in a possible candidacy of the former Foreign Minister. According to secure information from “P”, a group of executives, who also call themselves a group of center-left within DIKO, believe that as the data evolves, the possible candidacy of Nikos Christodoulidis is the most appropriate for the current policies of the party. The group of executives seems to be convinced from the data that the candidacy of the former Foreign Minister creates dynamics that have nothing to do with the conventional party models and interpretations, but with a visual picture of the current reality as faced by civil society. The interesting thing about the proposal of these executives, however, is that in fact, the insistence on a solution in the person of Christodoulidis, in fact, leads to an informal alliance with executives with extreme positions in the Cyprus issue, who have no reason not to support a possible candidacy. Christodoulidis.

The strengthening of the tendency to support Christodoulidis by DIKO does not yet have catalytic indicators capable of overturning the plans of Nikolas Papadopoulos, based on the decisions of the recent congress of the party that the consultation with AKEL will put on the table the candidacy of the party president.

In relation to Nikos Christodoulidis, the public positions of the leading team of DIKO are specific:

<li type = At present, he has not clarified his intentions , while his positions on the various issues are not known either, apart from the handling of the Cyprus issue, since he himself, at least publicly, has not distanced himself, and could not, from Anastasiadis politics.

  • It is not at all productive to raise the issue of another candidate, since the consultation with AKEL has not yet been fully opened.
  • A support for the Christodoulidis candidacy by the Center creates de facto dynamic, which may pose a future threat to the parties in the middle, but mainly to their leaderships
  • At DIKO, they are aware that the consultation with AKEL will be tough, but no one knows for sure the direction that the dialogue will take. It should be noted, however, that the team under reinforcement within DIKO – which is beginning to form an opinion in favor of Christodoulidis – these executives, therefore, argue that such a move may create conditions for meeting with their former competitors in the field of DIPA-Cooperation. The same executives are now declaring that they have never welcomed the split in the Center area and are convinced that a serious rapprochement will be created, in a possible electoral cooperation without weights and dependencies.

    Many more episodes

The internal party debates, of course, mainly in the parties that are still looking for their involvement in the electoral process, are expected to have many episodes and go through various stages. This current political and party reality does not give any faction the comfort to finally formulate its positions and attitude. This fluid image has to be opposed by the opposition parties, which are looking for either collaborations that will give the common person, or the appropriate person who will give the necessary collaborations. At present, they have a list of names for which they do not find a common component and this leads them, AKEL mainly, to search for other names, to put them in the emerging discussion which will begin with DIKO. The whole scene is expected to be illuminated when the institutional dialogue between the two parties begins.
