Meeting of the Association of Major Developments with the candidates for the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus Mavroyiannis and Christodoulidis

The members of the Board of Directors of the Association of Major Developments held a meeting with the candidates for the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Andreas Mavroyiannis and Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, on Wednesday, January 25, at the offices of KEBE in Nicosia, completing the cycle of scheduled meetings of the Association with the three leading candidates.

In the presence of the members of the Board of Directors of the Association, the President, Mr. Andreas Dimitriadis, after welcoming Mr. Mavroyiannis and Mr. Christodoulidis to the two consecutive meetings that took place, expressed the concerns and concerns of the Association in relation to the course of major investments in Cyprus, quoting a series of problems as well as suggestions to solve them. Mr. Dimitriadis, focusing on the main issues that concern the Association, referred to the negative climate that has been created in Cypriot society in recent years, targeting business, posing serious obstacles to attracting new investments from abroad and curbing the investments of local entrepreneurs.

The president of the PACE pointed out that a large part of the problems are due to the bureaucracy, the time-consuming and exhausting procedures required to secure the relevant approvals, but also to the absence of proper strategic planning with the aim of implementing a modern model of sustainable development in Cyprus. Mr. Dimitriadis reminded the two candidates of the urgent need for tax reform in the state as well as the implementation of a universal and integrated electronic government, which is required in a modern European state.

The two candidates underlining the important contribution of the Association in the Cypriot economy and the necessity of the cooperation of the state with the private sector in order for there to be progress and development, they agreed that the recommendations of the Major Developments Association are key interventions if we seek a modern, European and efficient state.

More specifically, Mr. Andreas Mavroyiannis pointed out the need to modernize the public service and our tax system, while he also focused on the

importance of promoting economic diplomacy, the main tool of other major European countries and one of the main recommendations of the Partnership.

On the same wavelength and Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis who declared himself a devotee of the cooperation between the private and public sectors, stressing that the need for reforms is imperative. Mr. Christodoulidis emphasized that the digital transformation of the country will help the most in its competitiveness, with large investments now being a cornerstone of the Cypriot economy.

The main pursuit of the Association of Major Developments through its meetings with the contenders for the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus is to strengthen the development of the domestic economy and attract significant and long-term investments to the island through major infrastructure projects that will bring multiple economic and social benefits for Cyprus.
