The main topic of the meeting was the proposed project for the creation of a large-scale photovoltaic park within the administrative boundaries of the Communities of Lythrodontas, Mathiatis and Analionta/Katalionta</strong></p> <p>The meeting was attended by the Commissioner of the Environment Ms. Antonia Theodosiou and her Office Officer, the President of the Machiras Complex and President of the Mathiatis Community Council, Mr. Theodoros Tsatsos, the President of the Lythrodontas Community Council, Ms. Olvia Christoforou, member of the Lythrodontas Council, Mr. Therapon Antoniou, and representative of the Analionta/Katalionta Community Council.</p> <p>During the meeting, the opinions of the Machiras Complex, and especially of the three directly affected Community Authorities (Lythrodontas, Mathiatis and Analionta/Katalionta) were submitted. Information was provided and opinions were exchanged on the proposal for the construction and operation of a 180MW photovoltaic park and 40MW energy storage units, which is proposed to be built on state-owned land, for the most part, with a total area of ​​3,500 decares.</p> <p>The local authorities expressed their positions and concerns and their opposition to the creation of a photovoltaic park of such a high power, for reasons related to the size of the park and the huge area of ​​land it will occupy, but also for the thousands of trees that will need to be planted. are cut, the agricultural land that the area will be deprived of, the change in the physiognomy of the natural landscape, the negative impact on an adjacent farm due to the high temperatures that will develop (due to the cutting of trees and/or the operation of the park), and, above all, as they reported, for the negative impact on the habitats of the area.</p> <p>Similar views were expressed by the Office of the Commissioner of the Environment, regarding the effects on the environment.</p> <p>This was followed by an on-site visit to the area proposed for the construction of the project in question, where it was found: The pines do not have pitchforks, there are pines of different ages which also proves that the pine forest is healthy, olive groves, fertile agricultural land cultivated as well as very remarkable landforms such as pillow lava hills. Birds of prey and cranes were also seen.</p> <p>For the proposed project, an Environmental Impact Assessment Study (EIA) and a Supplementary Study have been submitted to the Environmental Authority, while the project will remain open for consultation until 24/08 /2024. Opinions from any interested party can be submitted electronically until this date, on the website of the Department of the Environment, which includes information about projects that have been submitted to the Environmental Authority based on the Environmental Impact Assessment of certain projects Law N127(I)2018. </p> <p>source: OMEGALIVE</p> <p><noindex></p> <div class=Source: 24h.com.cy
