The Limassol Water Supply Council plans to start the replacement of the outdated distribution network, approximately 115 km long, in the second half of 2022.

In a statement, the director of SYL, Socrates Metaxas, states that the project, entitled “Replacement of Water Supply Network in areas of SYL” has been approved for co-financing by the Cohesion Policy Fund of the European Union 2021-2027, with the amount of 10 million euro.

In particular, it added, the project is part of Policy Objective 2 entitled “A greener Europe, with low carbon emissions”, which promotes investment in clean energy, cyclical economy and adaptation to climate change.

Policy Objective 2 includes water management and protection projects, such as drinking water pipelines, sewerage, water supply replacements, smart water meters, flood defenses and erosion protection of coastal fronts, with a total budget of € 195 million.

The tender for the construction contract of the project will be announced in the first quarter of 2022 and its implementation is expected to begin in the second half of 2022.

The main preliminary objectives of the project, according to the announcement, are the replacement of the outdated distribution network of SYL, approximately 115 km long and the reduction of water losses from the public water supply network.

“The project is expected to significantly upgrade the water supply network of the Limassol Water Supply Council and consequently to contribute to the upgrading of the quality of life of its consumers”, adds the director of SYL.
