There will be one more consultation on the creation of a Single Supervisory Authority before final decisions are made, said the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, on Saturday.
Mr. Keravnos, attending the conference on “The future of business and adapting to the changing landscape, which was organized by the CIM-Cyprus Business School, at the Bank of Cyprus headquarters in Nicosia, he said, in response to a related question, that they will proceed immediately with the Single Supervisory Authority.
Specifically, when asked about the next steps of the Ministry of Finance regarding the creation of a Single Supervisory Authority, the Minister of Finance emphasized that the Government is moving forward with determination in this matter as well. As he stated, “there are certainly gaps in this area and we are constantly seeing the effects, so we should move forward with the Single Supervisory Authority immediately”.
He noted that “the next step will still be a consultation and from there on, final decisions will be made”.
The Council of Ministers decided on the establishment of a single supervisory authority for companies providing administrative services on February 27. The decision of the Council of Ministers provoked the reaction of professional links, which led the Ministry of Finance to issue a statement on Friday in which it emphasized, among other things, that “the aphoristic statements and high tones that have seen the light of day, do not serve the public interest nor the finding of optimal solutions”.
He also emphasized that the Ministry of Finance also leaves the door of dialogue open, as is its constant practice.
