The Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Giorgos Papanastasiou, spoke of “staged” theater at yesterday's session of the Trade Committee, where the bill for the electronic shopping cart was discussed.

Speaking to “SPORT FM 95.0” and the show “DISPARATION OF NEWS”, Mr. Papanastasiou said that yesterday there was a “serious change” in the attitude of certain political parties towards the bill, but what surprised him the most was the position of the EPA which , he noted, had said that transparency would likely give rise to cartels. He claimed that the Commission could not justify this position and therefore requested a meeting in order to explain to him “how they can position themselves in this way for a transparency tool”.

When asked if behind the change of course at the political level there were micro-political motives, Mr. Papanastasiou stressed “micro-political or macro-political, it doesn't matter, what matters is that we are killing the consumer”.

Called to say whether this effort is still in the table, stated that “we are ready to listen to suggestions and substantiated proposals, but to say different things just to drag organized groups in directions in their favor, I do not accept it. I want there to be a productive dialogue, something that did not exist in this committee. It was a staged theater where we saw them use whatever weapon they had in their quiver to kill the tool.”
