A disciplinary misconduct was identified by the investigating officer, regarding the case of the five nurses of PASYNO, against whom a refusal to perform a duty was being investigated. In a statement, the Minister of Health Konstantinos Ioannou states that they will not be punished, due to the fact that they did not work in the service for any reason in the past.
In a written statement, the Minister of Health, Konstantinos Ioannou, states:
The authorized officer to whom I have entrusted the disciplinary investigation against the nursing officers following a complaint for refusal of patient care, has completed the procedure and ruled that the nursing staff has committed a disciplinary misconduct, that is, refusal to perform a duty.
However, after taking into account all the facts of the case, the authorized official decided not to impose any penalty. In particular, the specific circumstances faced by the nursing staff during the performance of their duties and the fact that these officers did not work in the service for any reason in the past were taken into account. In addition, it was taken into account that the nursing officers followed instructions of their guild for non-performance of their duty. According to the Superintendent of Trade Unions, at first sight PASYNO does not seem to have followed the procedures provided by both the statute of the Trade Union and the legislation on Trade Unions during the period in question.
Based on the above, it appears that PASYNO did not exhaust the scope of consultation, put its members to the test and in addition, with the recent mobilization, it caused unnecessary inconvenience to the citizens.
I have informed PASYNO that from my point of view the issue is considered over and I do not intend to take any further action. On this occasion, I reiterate the Ministry's commitment to dialogue to resolve any problems and I consider it necessary to work together to achieve the common goal of the well-understood interest of patients.
