Ministry of Finance surprise for Environmentalists' announcement after the meeting – What he says in a written statement
The Minister of Finance expresses surprise at the content of the Environmental Movement announcement regarding with the meeting they had yesterday.
In a written statement, Makis Keravnos states that “regarding yesterday's announcement issued by the Environmental Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, I express my surprise at its content, as our meeting was held in a very good and constructive atmosphere, with an exchange of views and positions, based on specific arguments. /strong>
During the meeting, as Minister of Finance, I agreed with a number of recommendations of the Environmental Movement – Citizen Cooperation, as for example with the fact that accuracy is a very important issue that concerns society, as well as the existence of high interest rates that make it even more difficult for households and businesses. In this context, I referred to a series of measures adopted by the Government to deal with the effects of high inflation, which as a whole are targeted and include not only the vulnerable groups of the population but also the middle class, as well as the recommendations that I personally have proceed to the banking institutions but also in the context of my interventions at the Eurogroup, regarding the level of interest rates.
In relation to the proposals of the Movement to hold a consultation before the submission of the 2025 Budget, as the Ministry of Finance we expressed misgivings in relation to the proposal as such a consultation is being conducted in the context of the multi-month and detailed discussion of the Budget in the relevant Parliamentary Committees. Regarding the proposals of the Movement for the preparation of a gender and green budget, we assured the Movement of Environmentalists – Citizens' Cooperation that these are examined by the Ministry of Finance and promoted on the basis of technical assistance received from the EU and other European institutions.
< p>Finally, I would like to emphasize that, as a government and personally as the Minister of Finance, we are always receptive to constructive suggestions from all parties and we always show the necessary seriousness and willingness to consider the possibility of their adoption where and where it is considered useful and efficient” he concludes .
