Missing Persons Investigation Committee: 779 Greek Cypriots and 201 Turkish Cypriots wanted

The Turkish Cypriot newspaper “Kipris” today refers to the statements of Hakki Muftuzade, a member of the Commission of Inquiry (ICC) on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot side. According to Mr. Muftizade, since the Commission began its work in 2006, 1,179 missing persons have been identified out of a total of 2,022.

According to the GTP, Mr. Muftuzande said that 1,022 people, 731 Greek Cypriots and 291 Turkish Cypriots, had been identified and added that DNA analyzes of persons who had not yet been identified were continuing. He also noted that 201 Turkish Cypriots and 779 Greek Cypriots are still wanted.

Stating that the CMP also faced problems due to the pandemic, he said that during the pandemic period, 160 excavations were carried out and 38 missing persons were located.
