The new decree of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry on the milk quota in halloumi production was published on Friday afternoon .

According to the content of the decree, the period between October 20, 2023 and January 31, 2024 inclusive, at 19%, and the period between February 1, 2024 and July 31, 2024 inclusive, at 25%.

In his statements to “K”, the competent Minister of Agriculture, Petros Xenophontos, stated that the implementation of the decree comes into force from today.

The specific ratios, as long as they are not changed, will apply until the end of the transition period. It is also noted that efforts are being made by the Ministry of Agriculture to gradually increase the production of goat's and sheep's milk, while it is added that the produced quantities of goat's and sheep's milk that are currently available, as they appear from the official data of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment , allow all halloumi producers to comply with the minimum ratios that have been decided.

In his statements to “K”, the responsible Minister of Agriculture, Petros Xenophontos, stated that the implementation of the decree comes into force from today. Commenting on the reactions expressed, he cited data based on which the available quantities of sheep and goats are at 19%. Based on these figures, the quota of sheep and goats is increased.

He pointed out that the goal of the state is to support PDO halloumi and by increasing the quantities, the degree of compliance with the dossier that wants sheep and goats to surpass beef and that the industry should adapt to the PDO and not the PDO to the industry.. He also noted that the protest of the goat and sheep farmers that was planned for the 23rd, has been postponed.
