More than a thousand cases and three deaths in Cyprus!

The Ministry of Health announces that today, July 21, 2021:

  • Three people died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 394.
  • 243 COVID-19 patients are being treated, of which 63 are in serious condition. 92.2% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
  • A total of 73,098 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
  • 1,014 (positivity rate: 1.39%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 94,261 .

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

The three people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:

  • A 78-year-old man who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A 82-year-old man who ended up at the Famagusta General Hospital.
  • A 89-year-old woman who ended up at the Limassol General Hospital.

Thus, the total number of final causes of COVID-19 disease is 394, of which:

  • 262 men (66.5%), and
  • 132 women (33.5%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77.2 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 243 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 63 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 63 patients who are in serious condition, 26 are intubated in the Intensive Care Unit and 37 in the Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 73,098 diagnoses made today, 7,537 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 65,561 by the antigen rapid test, 1,014 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 90 cases from 616 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 11 cases from 2,607 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 194 cases from 3,762 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 19 cases from 326 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case from 226 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 70 cases from 1,971 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 629 cases from 63,590 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.
