(i) Access to health services : Millions of people are living longer and more productive years thanks to improved medical care. Unfortunately, access to innovative drugs and vaccines is not the same for all people. In many parts of the world there are barriers to access and quality care. At MSD, guided by the fact that health is the supreme good to which everyone is entitled, we contribute through partnerships or through our own initiatives in the distribution of our medicinal products to all those who need them.

Catering sectors
Areas of focus for MSD today are oncology, vaccines, infectious diseases (eg COVID-19, HIV, etc.) and cardiovascular disorders. As one of the leading companies active in the field of vaccines, and as prevention is half of everything, we welcome the decisions of the National Advisory Vaccination Committee for the last two years: The extension of vaccination against more diseases (chickenpox, hepatitis A. etc. a.) in the context of GHS, but also the inclusion of new population groups in free vaccinations, such as boys against human papillomavirus – HPV, and people between 60-75 years against shingles.
HPV is a viral infection that can cause cancer of the cervix, anus, vulva, vagina, penis and pharynx, as well as genital warts. Vaccination can offer prevention against HPV and it is a great gift for adolescents in our country, their free vaccination within the GESY.
The importance of vaccinating boys against HPV lies in the fact that it is directly linked to the World Health Organization's goal of eradicating cervical cancer by 2030. A goal that is also included in the Europe Beating Cancer Plan, according to the to eradicate cervical cancer and other cancers caused by HPV requires vaccination of at least 90% of girls and a significant increase in the rate of vaccination of boys by 2030. It is worth noting that vaccination of boys against of HPV is one of the immediate priorities of the Cyprus National Cancer Strategy (January, 2019).
The recommended age for HPV vaccination is 11-12 years for boys and girls. The latest from the Health Insurance Agency (OAA) is even more encouraging, as free vaccinations are now available for children who may have missed the age limit. According to a relevant announcement, from mid-April all boys born after 01-01-2008 and girls born after 01-01-2004, and are over 11 years old, can be vaccinated free of charge at a doctor contracted with GESY. Official indications for the HPV vaccine include prevention of cervical, vulvar, vaginal, anal and genital warts associated with the HPV types of the vaccine.
The extension of vaccination to the adult population with vaccines, in addition to seasonal flu and coronavirus, against pneumococcus and herpes zoster is also extremely important in protecting public health.

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. When we get chickenpox, the virus does not leave our body, but remains in the nervous system and its reactivation later causes shingles. 95% of adults over the age of 50 have chickenpox, & nbsp; so they can develop the infection at any time. Prevention of shingles is possible through vaccination. The vaccine strengthens the immune system and helps maintain the inactivity of the virus. A single dose of the vaccine is enough to help protect ourselves.
The shingles vaccine is now included in the Ministry of Health's National Vaccination Program and is given free of charge by a personal doctor to people aged 60-75, regardless of whether they have had a previous episode of the infection.
In terms of pneumococcal vaccination, the proposed vaccination regimen involves a combination of two different vaccines, which have different mechanisms of activation of the immune system, protect against different strains and offer a combination of more comprehensive protection.
