The Municipality of Limassol has taken specific actions and measures to strengthen the Blue Economy, something that is a priority for the municipal authorities, said today the Mayor Nikos Nikolaidis, welcoming the conference “Horizon Europe – Funding Opportunities for the Blue Economy Sector”.
The conference, hosted at the newly established Municipal Innovation Center, was organized by the Cyprus & nbsp; Cyfos Maritime Foundation, with the aim of informing stakeholders about the prospects and opportunities for funding research and innovation in the field of Economics, in the framework of the “Horizon Europe” program running for the period 2021 – 2027.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the structure and budget of the funding program, the procedures and regulations for participation in it, as well as the services offered to potential participants, by the “National Contact Points” (NCP). & nbsp;
Particular emphasis was placed on the thematic categories (clusters) of the European program, related to the Blue Economy (Climate, Energy and Mobility and Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment) but also on the European mission “Restoration of our oceans and waters”.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Limassol, referred to the actions of the Municipality & nbsp; for strengthening the Blue Economy, saying that the first was the creation of the Blue Limassol Forum, in collaboration with Frederick University. The first conference, he continued, was held for the first time in 2020 and addressed the various challenges facing Limassol, such as the ecological protection of the sea and coasts, etc. & nbsp;
This year, he continued, the 2nd & nbsp; Blue Limassol Forum, held last week, provided important information for the further promotion of the Blue Economy in the city, presenting the first holistic environmental risk assessment study for the bay of Limassol.
He noted that the Municipal Innovation Center operates in direct collaboration and connection & nbsp; The two universities of Limassol, the Ministry of Shipping and the Research and Innovation Foundation, as well as other organizations and institutions, such as “Cyfos”.
Finally, Mr. Nikolaidis assured that the Municipality of Limassol will continue Collaborate with stakeholders and support actions that promote the Blue Economy, with the aim of promoting the development of the city and the effective addressing of the challenges that lie ahead.
