A group of people living in an apartment complex in Chloraka allegedly created a new incident in the area of Chloraka by throwing stones and sticks, while they also allegedly threw stones at the police officers who rushed to the scene, who fired warning shots.
According to a spokesman for the Paphos Police Department, the new incident took place around 19:00 tonight when a group of people of Syrian origin allegedly quarreled with each other.
Police patrols rushed to the area, however, at the sight of the police members, the people involved in the quarrel allegedly started throwing stones at the police officers and passing vehicles, the owners of which reported the malicious damages to the Police.
Police members in an effort to dissolve the concentration and railway, as reported by a representative of the ID, threw warning shots in an attempt to dissolve the group of those involved in the episode.
Besides, the president of K.S. Chlorakas Nikolas Liasidis called on the President of the Republic to intervene in order to close the complex which, as he said, “operates illegally and in which 500-600 people live, some of whom are asylum seekers”. Today, he said “with the episodes we unfortunately experienced moments of horror with all the negatives with consequences”.
Mr. Liasidis stated that a relevant decree has been issued for the specific complex by the Paphos District to close.
