New product categories to which zero VAT will be applied: meat and vegetables, as decided by the Council of Ministers in its session yesterday. While waiting for the decree, which will provide specific details on which products the new measure will concern, “K” requested clarifications from the competent Ministry and Service. According to the information, the zero VAT will apply to fresh chilled and frozen meats, poultry and minced meat. However, it will not concern processed and prepared meats such as burgers, seftalia, meat rolls, sausages, loins and cold meats in general.
As for the other category that was announced, vegetables, it is noted that in this the category includes products such as lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, vegetables, radishes, cabbages, krabi, cauliflower, eggplants, celery, asparagus, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini.
More details will be announced with the decree that will be issued within the next week so that it is clear both for sales businesses and consumers.
According to the Consumer Protection Service, from the moment of the announcement of the new measures, the Service's officials intensified checks on the market , in order to ensure that no unjustified increases in the prices of the products in question will be recorded before the implementation of the measure.
