The bills will be submitted for approval to the Cabinet and then to the Parliament, says the Ministry of Finance – The response of the Ministry of Finance

The dispute between the Speaker of the Parliament Annita Dimitriou and the Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos continued today on the issue of the consultation on the bills regulating the issue of multiple pensions of state officials.

The Minister of Finance informed the president of Parliament that the bills will finally be submitted to the Council of Ministers for examination and then to the House of Representatives, leaving sharp points against Mrs. Annita Dimitriou that she does not want pre-consultation and a joint conclusion on the Bills.

The response of the Speaker of the Parliament, Annitas Dimitriou, who sent a new letter to the Minister of Finance, was immediate, arguing that “any importance of the issue does not imply the voluntary involvement, either of the executive or the legislative power, in procedures not provided for in the constitution, consequently not the circumvention of the prescribed legislative procedures”

The bills will be submitted for approval to the Cabinet

The bills for the regulation of the pension benefits of state officials will be submitted to the House of Representatives after their approval by the Council of Ministers without any consultation, says the Minister of Finance Makis Keraynos in today's letter to the Speaker of the House Annita Dimitriou.

The Minister of Finance responds to yesterday's letter from the President of the Parliament, saying that “the aim of the government was the pre-consultation with the House of Representatives on such a serious issue which also concerns the members of the Legislative Body and which is of great concern to the sphere of public debate as well as society”.

Next, Mr. Keravnos states that “in any case, from what I understand from your answer, you do not want this pre-consultation and joint conclusion on the Bills”.

After informing the president of the Parliament that the relevant bills will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval, Mr. Keravnos notes that he hopes that the “Legislative Body, understanding the seriousness of the matter, will examine them with due care and if possible before the interruption of the work of the House of Representatives”.

Annita's new answer to Keravnos

“Your position on the issue of the multiple pensions of state officials, according to which this constitutes a very serious issue that strongly concerns the sphere of public debate and society, finds me completely in agreement”, says the president of the Parliament in a new letter- answer to the Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos.

“However”, adds Mrs. Dimitriou, “any importance of the issue does not imply the voluntary involvement, either of the executive or the legislative power, in unconstitutional prescribed procedures, consequently not circumventing the prescribed legislative procedures”.
