A new yellow warning was issued by the Meteorological Service, in relation to the onset of “Elpis” bad weather in Cyprus.
According to the announcement, the warning is valid from the early hours of Tuesday, until the afternoon of the same day and, in particular, strong isolated thunderstorms are expected on our island, between the hours of 02:00 am. and 4:00 p.m.
In detail, the weather report:
The Elpis weather system will affect the area until Wednesday night.
Tonight, the weather will be partly cloudy, but later it will become mostly cloudy with rain and isolated thunderstorms, initially in the western half of the island but then in other areas. In the mountains it will snow from time to time. Locally the effects will be prolonged or even intense. The winds will initially blow variable patients, 3 beauforts, to gradually become mainly southeasterly to southerly, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 beauforts and on the west coast temporarily very strong, 6 beauforts. The sea will be a little turbulent at first, to soon become turbulent and in the west to wavy. The temperature will drop to 2 degrees inland, around 8 on the west and north coasts, around 5 on the rest of the coast and around minus 6 degrees in the higher mountains. Locally in the mountains, in the semi-mountains and in the interior, frost will form.
Tomorrow, the weather will be cloudy, with occasional rains and isolated thunderstorms. In the higher mountains it will snow at times. Locally, the effects will be prolonged or even intense. Late in the afternoon the weather will improve significantly. The winds will initially blow mainly southwesterly, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 beauforts and temporarily in the leeches up to very strong, 6 beauforts, to later become mainly southwesterly as westerly moderate to strong, 4 to 5 beauforts. The sea will become turbulent to wavy and in the leewards wavy. The temperature will rise to 12 degrees inland, around 14 on the coast and 2 degrees in the higher mountains. Frost will be observed locally in the higher mountains.
Tomorrow night, the weather will be partly cloudy and there may be isolated rain, mainly on the beaches. The winds will blow mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 beauforts, but initially in the leeward to strong, 4 to 5 beauforts. The sea will be turbulent and initially windward to wavy.
On Wednesday, the weather will be partly cloudy and temporarily cloudy, with local rains or even thunderstorms. Snowfall is expected in the mountains. The temperature will drop slightly, to fluctuate significantly below the average climatic values.
On Thursday and Friday, the weather will be mostly clear, although from time to time there will be locally increased clouds. The temperature will rise slightly on Thursday and not change significantly on Friday, however, remaining below the average climatic values.
The height of the snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issuance of the bulletin, was 42 cm.
