Issues of local self-government, as well as cooperation for the creation of modern, sustainable and humane cities were discussed by the Mayor of Nicosia, Konstantinos Giorkatzis and the president of KEDE and Mayor of Trikala, Dimitris Papastergiou, in the context of contacts held in Athens.
As they agreed during their meeting, it is important for the local authorities to be active and to take initiatives for the transition to the digital age and the implementation of smart solutions for the improvement of the daily life of the citizens. Mr. Papastergiou referred to the opportunities provided through the funding of the Ministry of Digital Governance for Smart Cities, while he particularly touched on the issue of citizen participation in the joint effort to implement best practices.
On his part, the Mayor of Nicosia, congratulated Mr. Papastergiou who as Mayor of Trikala has managed to apply the most modern practices of a smart city, making Trikala a Municipality model and reference point for many European cities.
The president of KEDE accepted, in fact, the invitation of Mr. Giorkatzis, to visit Nicosia and to see closely the work of the Smart City that is being implemented, on the basis of which the two sides agreed to continue the discussion for the expansion of their cooperation. .
