The Presidency is intervening in the debate taking place in the Parliament in relation to the new legislative framework on how to deal with state officials. The recommendation heard by the Tax Commissioner during the last meeting of the Institutions Committee to publish a single number, instead of a detailed asset situation, seems to have rung a bell, with the Deputy Minister to the President Irini Piki sending a letter to the MPs citing her relevant recommendations Greco and noting that the goal should be the best possible compliance with them, to restore citizens' trust in the institutions:
– Redesign of asset declarations data to provide more detailed information.
– Electronic submission for purposes of automated processing and verification.
– Extension of the “whose connection” obligation to all persons entrusted with top executive duties.
– Review of the frequency of the disclosure obligation.
– Ensuring substantial verifications of financial statements.< /p>
The path to be followed by the two legal proposals is expected to be clarified next Wednesday, so the debate will continue in the Institutions Committee.
“This was a thought that was probably misunderstood that was heard by the Commissioner of Taxes and with the Commissioner of Taxes in mind the constitutional obstacle, the court decision that does not allow the disclosure of the detailed situation of the rest of the family, that's why he talked about net worth “, said the President of the Institutions Committee of the Parliament, Dimitris Dimitriou.
With the President and the members of the Committee preparing to unfold their positions with the ultimate aim of ensuring transparency.
“I believe that the marriage of the two, i.e. the detailed state of the PEP's property together with the publication of the net asset position of the entire family, will be the best we can do in terms of transparency. But we will also add to the officials who will have this obligation all those who are currently absent”, added Mr. Dimitriou.
“The Presidential Office will be asked to prove if they mean transparency when the President will be asked to sign for the Prosecutor and his Assistant the submission of Pothen Esches, reminding them that based on the Constitution they are independent officials and not judges! The things about their dignity that they invoke in their letter is an unacceptable argument and offensive to the rest of us!”, AKEL MP Irini Charalambidou says through her post on X (Twitter).
Noting that the statement capital situation should be checked by the Tax Commissioner.
