Occupied: Abstention record was recorded in the early

At 58.23% was the turnout in the early “parliamentary elections”, while in the “presidential elections” in October 2020 was 67.19%. There were 203,792 “registered voters” and the turnout was 763. There were 403 candidates, of whom 131 were women, and 3 were independents. 8 parties participated.

The highest turnout was recorded today in the occupied area of Trikomo, where most of the settlers live, and the lowest in Nicosia, where the largest mass of voters resides and the opposition has more power.

The counting of votes began with the closing of the polls but the final results are expected to be announced tomorrow afternoon, due to the delay in the counting of the mixed – horizontal voting.

With only 21 ballots counted, the “Supreme Electoral Council” announced before 20.30 the following percentages: National Unity Party 38.29%, Republican Turkish Party 27.12%, Democratic Party 11.29%, People's Party 4.96%, KKD 2.99%, KA 12.51% KKA 1.84% and Dromos Independence 1%.

Commenting on the first results that show the Community Democracy Party staying out of “parliament”, the party's secretary general, Khalil Hizal, expressed disappointment.

“Let us not hide behind our finger, this is a failure. “It means we could not explain well,” he said. Mr. Hizal estimated, speaking on the Sim Channel, that they were affected by the abstention but also that some of their voters, in order to prevent the victory of the KEE, voted for RTK.

At a time when the left-wing parties are winning elections on the international stage, it is not nice to have a debate on whether the KKD will enter the “parliament” or not, he added.

Mr. Hazil left open the possibility of resignations in the KKD.

According to the Press and Information Office, the illegal Bayrak (Brtk-23.01.22) broadcast that the final turnout in the “early parliamentary elections” rose to 58.23%. According to the president of the so-called Supreme Electoral Council, Narin Ferdi Siefik, the turnout percentages by occupied province so far were as follows: Nicosia 60.07%, Famagusta 54.40%, Kyrenia 52.20%, Morphou 58.30%, Trikomo 62.24%.

The polls closed at 18.00.
