The work stoppage on Wednesday of the port workers at the ports of Larnaca and Vasilikos is condemned by the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB), stating that it was carried out “in violation of the Industrial Relations Code, without pending a relevant procedure before the mediation service of the Ministry of Labor and for a matter that has been clarified with the opinion of the Attorney General».
“This is not the first time that the port workers, operating completely outside the procedures and labor institutions, with their attitude create disproportionate problems for traders, consumers and the economy in general”, says OEB in a statement, adding that the main priority of the social dialogue is the legislative regulation of the Agreement on the Procedure for the Resolution of Labor Disputes in Essential Services.
In particular the period we are going through, according to the OEB, "with the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine leading in chain effects such as the increase in the cost of energy, grain, food and raw materials that affect the quality of life of people, but also the smooth operation of businesses, the closure of ports without reason and reason is a huge blow to everyone who they struggle to cope and survive».
OEB states that it has set as a basic singularity in the social dialogue the legislative regulation of the Agreement on the Procedure for the Resolution of Labor Disputes in Essential Services that the social partners agreed and signed in 1999 and adds that "the time has come to protect the economy from unjustified, unacceptable and unnecessary actions".
