“Unjustified, unfair and harmful”, the deprivation of the right to choose the education of children over four years old in private centers and kindergartens, says the Federation of Employers & Industrialists (OEB), which calls on the parliamentary parties to allow the Ministry of Education to proceed with the implementation of the strategic plans "without further delays".
Specifically, OEB says that it considers it "unjustified, unfair and harmful" depriving children over the age of four of the right to choose to attend private preschools and kindergartens and imposing compulsory attendance exclusively at public kindergartens. only in the public sector, at no level of compulsory education,' he says.
The private centers and kindergartens, he notes, "through the high quality of the services offered, in an extended opening hours and in some cases in foreign languages, strengthen the reconciliation of professional and family life, especially of mothers and contribute to the efforts to reverse the subfertility".
He also mentions that the State, responding to the recommendations that OEB together with the Association of Private Preschool Education of Cyprus (SIPEK) submitted “a long time ago”, managed to secure a significant European subsidy through which the targeted support for children and parents, based on income criteria, to study in existing approved structures.
«The successful implementation of the Subsidy Program for children aged up to four years by the Deputy Ministry of Welfare, demonstrates that expansion is a one-way street of the Ministry of Education and for children over the age of four, adds.
In closing, OEB calls on the Parliamentary Parties to allow the Ministry of Education to proceed with the implementation of the strategic plans "without further delays".
