The dream of building OMONIA's privately owned stadium is taking shape.
The Administration, Stavrou Papastavrou, with organized, methodical and decisive actions, which started in November 2018, managed to buy the plots of land required for the creation of the entire Project and is proceeding with all the procedures so that OMONIA can acquire its own football stadium “home”.
The privately owned stadium of OMONIA has been a dream of its thousands of fans for many years and now, the Administration is able to announce that it is proceeding with its construction!
It is a Project – milestone in the history of the Association and a great achievement for OMONIA.
In Cheri, just one kilometer from the highway
The “palace” of OMONIA will be located in Cheri, approximately just one kilometer away from the highway.
The choice of the construction area of the stadium is of decisive importance for the entire Project and meets all the criteria set by the Administration.
By 2022, eight land cases had been assessed on which the project could be designed and implemented. Initially, in 2018, the possibility of utilizing the Makarei stadium was considered, while subsequently, in the following years, parcels of land from Tseri, Nissou, Potamia, Alhambra, and even Mosfiloti were evaluated.
The area construction of the stadium and the entire Project is in a strategic location in Nicosia.
There will be very easy access to the stadium and the rest of the uses of the entire Project for the world from all cities, which consisted of the principle basic condition.
The plots of land acquired are located at a point where obtaining the necessary permits is easy and within a special-use urban planning zone, in which the development of large sports facilities is permitted.
The land meets the necessary geomorphological characteristics and can about 200 thousand square meters will be developed, which covers the needs of the creation of the stadium and the other Projects that are planned.
In addition, the construction of the first phase of the Nicosia perimeter highway has already been completed in the area, which, combined with the access from the existing A1 highway, creates ideal conditions of accessibility to the OMONIA stadium.
150,0000 square meters of land were purchased and another 50,000 square meters of state land will be added
To meet the needs of the monumental project, 22 different plots were required, which the Management, Stavrou Papastavrou, bought from 15 different sellers, with a total area of about 150 thousand square meters, plus about 50 thousand square meters of state land, which OMONIA is located in process to secure from the government. The process of securing the plots began in October 2022, while agreements were signed with all the owners and the transfer of all was completed in August 2024.
The use cases of the Development
The uses that will be included in the entire development have been determined:
– The main Stadium will have a capacity of approximately 16 thousand spectators.
– The OMONIA training center will also be built in the development area.
– A hotel unit and guest houses for both our team athletes and athletes from outside OMONIA will be created, as well as outdoor sports facilities such as futsal and padel courts. In addition, office spaces will be created for Research and Development Centers, for Specialized Medical Centers, as well as for High Technology Developments. The group's offices will also be housed there.
– The development includes Commercial uses supporting the entire Project and catering areas.
Public Management Report
The Project will be managed through a Public Management Report, which will be regularly updated and available to the world to track its progress and progress. Through the Public Management Report, the world of OMONIA will know, in real time, how the completion process of the entire Project is progressing and will be able to ascertain whether all the involved bodies are working efficiently in cooperation with us and consistently or if there is a delay and who provoke.
Next steps
The preliminary design of the Project has begun, while the topographic survey of the plots has been completed. The Administration is in the process of appointing a consultant to prepare a traffic impact study, the design of the Master Plan is being implemented and the stadium drafts are being prepared.
60-70 million investment
For the whole Project, with the main Stadium, the training center and the other facilities, as previously mentioned, an investment of around 60 to 70 million euros will be made.
Outlook for the 2028-29 season
OMONIA is ready to complete the stadium to be ready for use in the 2028-29 season, all arrive the competent services and institutions of the state to operate efficiently and consistently.
