The position of the “greens” on the decision of the KOP
Announcement from Omonia regarding the decision of the KOP regarding the ban on the movement of fans.
“The decision to implement the measure of the ban on the movement of fans is a negative development for Cypriot sports.
The problem of violence in stadiums, which for years remains unsolved, is first and foremost combated by punishing the real offenders and not by the few punishing the many pure fans, depriving them of what they love.
OMONIA as an Association stands strongly against violence, taking actions in this direction, some of which are particularly harsh, unpopular and difficult. Our aim is to contribute, to the best of our ability, so that there is safety on the field at OMONIA's matches. And we did see results, as offending behavior at our home games was reduced to a minimum, while there was a significant increase in attendance and a significant increase in family and child attendance. Moreover, whenever a problem is noticed we immediately rush to solve it, without looking for excuses and without blaming others for it. The other teams in Cyprus should also follow this path and not allow their few unruly fans to cause damage to all the rest. It is clear to us what the real sports fan is asking for.
We expect this to be a temporary measure. Until it is lifted, whatever is necessary should be done so that we can return to normality and not experience situations that endanger anyone's safety again.
Our stadiums must be full of people who want to. to enjoy what sport has to offer. The Cypriot proved that he likes the stadium and the nice, sportsmanlike atmosphere created by fans of each competing team. It is the duty of all of us to offer it to him, always with safety as the top priority”.
