The Ministry of Health announces that today, August 23, 2021:
- One person died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 484.
- 196 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 75 are in serious condition. 82.66% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
- 16 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized in intensive care due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
- A total of 51,999 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
- 333 (positivity rate: 0.64%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 111,666 .

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:
One person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 is:
- A 71-year-old man who died on August 22 at the Limassol General Hospital.
Thus, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 484, of which:
- 311 men (64%), and
- 173 women (36%)
The average age of those who die from the disease is 77 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 196 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 75 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 75 patients in serious condition, 38 are intubated, six are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 31 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 51,999 diagnoses made today, 6,258 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 45,741 by the antigen rapid test method, 333 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:
- 20 cases from 154 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 2 cases of 3,110 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 66 cases from 2,611 samples taken through private initiative.
- 11 cases from 262 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 3 cases from 121 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- 153 cases from 30,300 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 78 cases from 15,441 samples that were examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
