The response of taxpayers to the call of the Tax Department to submit earlier this year the income tax returns of the employee and the self-employed, for the tax year 2021. Although the submission of tax returns began on the 8th of the month, three weeks later, just 6 thousand. have been submitted by the 280 thousand taxpayers who are obliged to do so.
According to data from the Tax Department provided by “Φ”, a total of 8,200 taxpayers have processed their tax returns, of which about 6,000 have submitted their return permanently and 2,200 have processed their return and placed it on temporary receipt./p>
The last date for submission of tax returns and the payment of tax due and charges is June 31, 2022. Therefore, those taxpayers who file tax returns from August 1 onwards will be subject to an administrative fine € 100.

On behalf of the Tax Department, Sotiris Markidis appeals to taxpayers to comply with the schedules and not wait until the last minute to submit income tax returns. “Taxpayers are appealed to, in order to avoid overloading the system, to complete and submit their declaration, if they do not expect any other information, in order to avoid overloading the system during the last days of submission,” he told “F”. Mr. Markidis.
According to the decree of the Ministry of Finance, the taxpayers who last year had a gross income of up to € 19,500 are obliged to submit tax returns. According to Mr. Markidis, the 2021 tax return retains all the automation that has been introduced in recent years for faster and easier completion by taxpayers. As he said, the retrieval of data from the General Accounting Office and the Social Insurance Service for retirees and the self-employed is available, adding that the calculations are made automatically, ie the income tax, the contributions for the GESY and the extraordinary defense contribution.
It should be noted that for the convenience of taxpayers, on the website of the Tax Department www.mof.gov.cy/tax has been posted useful information material for completing and submitting the declaration, under the icon “Personal Income Statement 2021”. Mr. Markidis called on all taxpayers who will have to pay tax to settle it either through jccsmart (only for timely payments without interest and charges) & nbsp; & nbsp; or by registering debts through the Tax Portal and paying via internet banking. Taxpayers already registered with TAXISnet will use the same codes. In case someone has lost or forgotten the TAXISnet passwords, the recovery and sending of new passwords is done automatically through the TAXISnet website (https://taxisnet.mof.gov.cy & nbsp;) by selecting “I forgot my Passwords” and entering the tax registration number (TIN) and e-mail address.
It is reminded that for the Tax Portal the same passwords that the taxpayer has to access the TAXISNet system apply. All electronic payments take 1-2 business days to appear in the payment statement. Finally, within May it is expected to be posted on TAXISnet the income statement of a company and an individual with accounts for the tax year 2021, with an obligation to submit it by March 31, 2023. As stated by Mr. Markidis, for the first time this statement will be so available for submission early, which & nbsp; raises optimism that no extensions will be required, as taxpayers will have more than 10 months to comply.
