Open call from Petrideo Foundation for the exhibition Reflections of a Community

Must read

It will take place from October 12 to 20, 2024 at the Old Electric of Paphos – What those interested need to know

The Petridio Foundation is issuing an open invitation for participation in the group exhibition entitled Reflections of a Community, which will take place from October 12 to 20, 2024 at the Old Electric Station of Paphos. Yiannis Sakellis and Kyriakos Margaritis have undertaken the Coordination and Curation of the Exhibition. The organizer is the Petrideo Foundation and the supporter is the Municipality of Paphos.

According to an announcement by the Petrideo Foundation, the invitation concerns professional artists (graduates or not) born or residing in Paphos.

According to the rationale of the curators for the group exhibition Reflections of a Community, artists are urged to an in-depth investigation of community life in Paphos, in all its individual elements: Identity/otherness, mentalities, multiplicity and difference, local feeling, public and private sphere, public and personal experience.

As stated, by way of explanation, the artists are invited to reflect on the concept of place and lifestyle in Paphos, and to present the visual imprint of their research, far beyond the usual representations of the city, attempting a narrative and symbolic rendering of place through its various reflections (reflections), as they themselves employ and creatively transcribe them into the work of art.

The objective of the exhibition, it is added, is not the presentation of a series of external images from Paphos, but the dynamic mapping of the community as an internal and mental landscape and an in progress assembly of this condition through the snapshots that the artists will present.

It is also pointed out that the group character of the exhibition takes on dimensions of synergy, and there is a shared tour of the narrative web of the Paphian community, a web that is woven and highlighted by the artists themselves, with the works as signposts and signals/threads.

The curators aspire to thus construct a living and open archive, which will aggregate all the stories, marking a new, grand narrative about the community identity and experience of Paphos, with visual artists in the role of narrator and interpreter.
