    According to its announcement, OPOK, in the memorandumof, states that in the area where the development is proposed, there are five types of habitats, while as recorded in the Environmental Impact Assessment Study (EIA), it is proposed to cut 1,400 pines and other trees.

    There is also expected to be an impact on bird fauna of the project area, but also of the wider area, which consists of more than 50 species, according to the MEEP bird fauna record.

    Also, OPOK considers the radical transformation of the existing development model necessary of Cyprus, so that spatial planning and urban development are consistent with the fundamental principles of sustainable development and environmental protection.

    The federation considers “the elaboration and implementation of a plan for the island, the which should determine the general zoning policy to be followed for the regulation and control of development, and set the overall framework for land uses, areas of protection and conservation of natural and cultural heritage and others”.
