Optimism prevails in the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for the results in the tourism industry, despite the problems that have recently occurred in the region, but also internationally, Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis said in his statements in Paphos.

"It is a year, which is characterized by some particularities, he said, such as the crisis in our region, the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean, which affects us, the geopolitical crisis, the economic crisis that appeared in Central and Western European countries and of course the issue of aviation, which is developing into a crisis, as more than 40 companies worldwide are affected among them, some of which maintain flight programs to Cyprus.

However, he added, we remain optimistic. "The goal, which we have set as a Deputy Ministry and as a Government, is to remain at the high performance of the previous year will be achieved".

Asked if there are new markets from which Cyprus expects arrivals, Mr. Koumis said that Cyprus is a mature destination, which receives visitors from many countries, therefore there is not much potential to add many new countries of arrivals. For our country, he added, new markets can be characterized as the countries of Central Asia, the Far East, or the United States, countries from which we have not had flight programs for many years.

We started, said Mr. Koumis, a process to mature the conditions and in the coming years to achieve much higher numbers than these countries and we are optimistic that we will achieve it. “Certainly what we need to emphasize right now,” he said, “is not only to find new markets, but also to create resilience in existing ones.” We devoted a lot of energy last year and we will continue to devote the same this year to maintain flying programs, but also to keep our country's strategic partners happy. “We are optimistic,” he said in closing, “that in the end we will get the results we desire.”

The Deputy Minister of Tourism made the relevant statements to journalists while at a blood donation event dedicated to the lost students of the 2nd Primary Geroskipos, Giorgos Stefanos and Neophytos Tsangaras.
