Creativity with a Purpose – 10 Years Orb: ORB's Communications team rebuilt and created a basketball court, supporting Voice for Autism and the action Be an Angel.
Wearing her basketball shoes and using her creativity as a vehicle, ORB Communications organized a special event in Spyros Kyprianou Park of Aglantzia Municipality, contributing to the efforts of Voice for Autism to support young adults with autism to become independent and join society.
The event took place on Thursday, June 29, as part of the “Creativity with a Purpose – 10 Years Orb” action, which falls under the Corporate Social Responsibility actions implemented by ORB over time and was held on the occasion of the company's 10 years of creative progress. They were attended by the Mayor of Aglantzias, Mr. Andreas Constantinou, members of the Non-Profit Organization Voice for Autism, partners, customers and friends of the company.
ORB undertook to completely rebuild the park's basketball court, giving back to the local community. During the event, ORB members took up brushes and paints and with the help of graffiti artist and illustrator Stelios Papageorgiou – who is based in London and traveled to Cyprus exclusively for this project – painted the floor of the stadium , adding color to the everyday life of park visitors. The inspiration around the design comes from the “Be an Angel” action of Voice for Autism, with the ORB team giving… wings to the ORBer, conveying in a smart and creative way to the public and especially to the new generation, the message of Organization.
In her brief greeting, Managing & Creative Director of Orb Communications, Ms. Nicoletta Charalambous, thanked the Mayor of Aglantzia, Mr. Andreas Constantinou and the entire Voice for Autism team for the perfect collaboration, which led to the creation of a modern and at the same time colorful space for park visitors. “Those of us in the field of communication and advertising have a responsibility to create campaigns and actions with a positive sign for society. This is what we have as a compass in the ten years of our company's presence in the Cypriot market. So we took advantage of the creativity, innovation and sensitivity that characterizes us as a team and created something out of the box, with the aim of raising public awareness of Voice for Autism and its work.” “This action”, he added, “and the cooperation with the organization, are milestones for us. On the one hand, because we are given the opportunity to offer the residents of the area and the visitors of the park a beautiful result, giving life to the space, and on the other hand, because we support the multidimensional and valuable work of Voice for Autism”.
For her part, the co-founder and President of Voice for Autism, Ms. Ellen Georgiou Pontikis said: “We applaud this amazing initiative by ORB Communications and the Mayor of Aglantzia, which recognizes the importance of creating opportunities for the social integration of individuals with autism. We are excited for our participation in the event as such, but also for what this initiative is expected to offer in the long term”.
On behalf of the Municipality of Aglantzia, the Mayor Mr. Andreas Konstantinou referred to the special importance of the action, which, as he said, gave another… color to the park and to the everyday life of its visitors. “Our Municipality is always open to fresh and creative ideas that beautify the area and the lives of its residents,” he added.
During the event, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy music from Voice for Autism band. This is the first official appearance of the band at an event, which consists of young adults with autism, who entertained the guests and impressed everyone with their musical skills.
At the event, the limited edition t-shirts designed by the ORB team for the financial support of the organization and which are available for sale by Voice for Autism to support their actions were also presented.
Voice for Autism: Advocacy & Action is a registered, not-for-profit organization that advocates and supports young adults with autism, helping them build meaningful, socially integrated lives. Its goal is the independence of people with disabilities and their inclusion in society. In this direction, the Organization has built two houses in Lakatamia, Nicosia, which are ready to accommodate 6 young adults with autism. To this end, an awareness campaign has been launched, supported by the Organization's Advisory Committee, which consists of Cyprus' leading academics/psychologists/therapists, who work in the field of special needs and wish to build a stronger society that supports the people with disabilities. In addition, he plans to open a restaurant where disabled people can work together, which will boost their self-esteem.
